Announcing some recent positions and placements from various alumi and graduate students
 

Brass/Percussion:

  • Ben Miles, DMA '05, accepted a position as associate professor of tuba/euphonium at Middle Tennessee State University. Ben had been assistant professor at Wright State University since 2008.
  • Tom Lukowicz, current DMA candidate, accepted a full-time position as instructor of Tuba/Euphonium at Wright State University.
  • Jacob Cameron, current DMA candidate, accepted a full-time, tenure-stream position as assistant professor of tuba/euphonium at Western Michigan University.
  • Gail Robertson, current DMA candidate and University Distinguished Fellow, accepted a part-time position as instructor of tuba/euphonium at Eastern Michigan University.

Choral Conducting:

  • Derrick Fox, finishing a DMA in choral conducting, has been appointed assistant professor of choral music at Ithaca College.
  • Ryan Kelly, DMA '12 in choral conducting, has been named associate director of choral activities and assistant professor at West Chester University in Pennsylvania, a tenure-track position.

Music Education:

  • The three graduating PhD students in music education have all secured significant faculty appointments beginning in the fall: Robin Giebelhausen has accepted a position as assistant professor of music education at the University of New Mexico; Andrea Ramsey has accepted a position in the music education department at Ohio State University in choral music education; and Heather Shouldice has accepted a position as assistant professor of music education at Eastern Michigan University.
  • Julie Kastner, doctoral student in Music Education, accepted a tenure-system job at the University of Houston.

Woodwinds:

  • Jon Holden, a recent DMA graduate, just won the clarinet position at Florida State University.
  • Jonathan Nichol, recent DMA graduate, has been appointed assistant professor of saxophone position at University of Oklahoma.
  • Geoff Deibel, recent DMA graduate, accepted an assistant professor of saxophone and jazz studies at Wichita State University.

Vocal Arts

  • Siân Davies, BM in music education and voice performance '05, joined Opera Grand Rapids and performs Mozart's Don Giovanni in February. Click here to read an article. 

Strings

  • Andrew Goodlett, BM in jazz studies '09, won the international audition to join the Winnipeg Symphony in Canada as assistant principal bass.

Composition

  • In January 2013, Jeremy Ribando, DMA in composition '05, became the chair of the humanities, fine and performing arts division at Northwest Florida State College where he has been a faculty member the last seven years.
  • James Lentini, MM in composition '84, was appointed provost and senior vice president for academic affairs for Oakland University beginning July 8. Lentini will be departing as dean of the School of Creative Arts at Miami University of Ohio. Click here to read an article.
