Band and Orchestra 2020-21 Rehearsal Procedure and Schedule

Large Rehearsal and Eichler Rehearsal Halls

12:30-2:50 rehearsal period

*All students must be wearing a mask when entering the building and as they enter the rehearsal room.
Face masks should be worn when not playing instruments.


Entrances/Exits:

Wind Symphony/Symphony Orchestra

  • To enter the Billman Music Pavilion: Use WEST entrance of building between Murray Hall and Large Rehearsal Hall. 
  • To enter the Large Rehearsal room: Line up in hallway outside of Large Rehearsal using the posted floor stickers closest to window. When instructed, enter the hall through the NORTH door. 
  • After rehearsal: Leave Large Rehearsal through the south door and exit the building through the Murray/Large rehearsal door.
  • If you are coming to rehearsal from other parts of the Music Building, Music Practice Building or Billman Music Pavilion, please maintain at least six feet of physical distance from others as you proceed to the designated spot to enter the rehearsal hall.

Symphony Band/Concert Band

  • To enter the Billman Music Pavilion: Use NORTH entrance behind Cowles House. 
  • To enter Eichler Rehearsal room: Line up in hallway outside of Eichler Rehearsal using the posted floor stickers closest to window. When instructed, enter the hall through the SOUTH door.
  • After rehearsal: Leave Eichler Rehearsal through the NORTH door and exit the building through the NORTH door.
  • If you are coming to rehearsal from other parts of the Music Building, Music Practice Building or Billman Music Pavilion, please maintain at least six feet of physical distance from others as you proceed to the designated spot to enter the rehearsal hall.

Safety Protocols:

  • Face masks have to be worn in transit and when not playing.
  • If you are not playing on a particular selection, please distance yourself 6 feet around the perimeter of the room.
  • There should be no coming and going out of the room during the performing rehearsal times. There will be designated times for bathroom breaks.
  • Each player will be provided with bell covers, instrument covers and slitted masks for added prevention while rehearsing, as well as access sanitation supplies available in the rehearsal spaces. 
  • Condensation protocols for brass or wind instruments:
    • Emptying condensation on any floor is prohibited.
    • Brass or wind players who may have condensation accumulated in their instruments during playing must empty into absorbent pads placed next to each player’s chair.
    • Players will remove their own absorbent pads and dispose in trash containers.
  • There will be NO shared wind instruments (including all saxophones, trumpets, trombones, flutes, and clarinets). The only instruments shared will be pianos, bass and guitar amps, and drum sets. Students will be expected to wipe down these instruments after rehearsals.
  • All chairs, stands and flooring will be sanitized prior to rehearsal and between rehearsal groupings to ensure proper safety.
  • Proper time limits per room will be adhered to in order to let the prescribed air circulation to take place.

Schedule:

The schedule will follow a 30-minute rehearsal followed by a 20-minute room refresh period. Proper time limits per room will be adhered to in order to let the prescribed air circulation to take place.

12:30-1:00 Group 1 First rehearsal period

  1:15 Report for rehearsal at designated spots outside rehearsal room
  1:20 Enter rehearsal room through designated entrance door
1:25-1:55 Group 2 Second rehearsal period
1:55   Clean stations- exit room through designated exit door
     
2:10 p.m. Group 3 Arrival (see instructions above)
  2:10 Report for rehearsal at designated spots outside rehearsal room
  2:15 Enter rehearsal room through designated entrance door
2:20-2:50   Third rehearsal period
2:50    Clean stations- exit room through designated exit door
