In Greater Lansing

Through its outreach activities in the greater Lansing area, the College of Music provides a broad range of programs in music education, music therapy clinical services, and performances to individuals and families of all ages, incomes,  and abilities.  

Students in the summer Musical Theatre day camp perform a revue for family and friends.

Community Music School (CMS) East Lansing: CMS, in its 20th year of operation, enrolls more than 2,700 students annually. Classes offered include early childhood music education; Suzuki method instruction in violin, viola, cello, piano, guitar, and harp; children and youth choirs, including the Grammy Award-winning MSU Children's Choir; group classes and private lessons in nearly every instrument and type of music; the New Horizons Band, string ensemble, and group piano for adults; and music therapy clinical services for individuals and groups. In addition, CMS offers a range of summer camps including a residential jazz camp, musical theatre, rock, music therapy, and chamber music camps. In collaboration with MSU's Residential College in the Arts and Humanities, CMS-East Lansing offers folk music classes for members of the MSU and Greater Lansing communities. 

Greater Lansing Community Concert Series: The MSU College of Music offers the Greater Lansing Community Concert Series, featuring outreach performances that showcase student musicians in venues throughout the greater Lansing area. Locations in 2013-14 include Burcham Hills Retirement Community, Independence Village, Ingham County Medical Care Facility, Sparrow Hospital, The Marquette, Pleasant View Magnet School, and Hospice of Lansing.
