Sponsorships Bring Great Music to Life

Acknowledging longtime patrons and donors who support faculty artist and student ensemble concerts.

The MSU College of Music first began promoting concert sponsorship opportunities in the academic year 2009-10, just two years after the school attained independent college status. In fact, College of Music National Leadership Council members were the first to support the college's Showcase Series concerts by sponsoring the Collage III concert. That year, the college had four concert sponsorships totaling $28,000 in support.

Concert sponsorships offer a wonderful opportunity to acknowledge longtime patrons and donors who support faculty artist and student ensemble concerts. Sponsorships include individual faculty artist concerts at $1,000, $1,500 for West Circle Series and Cello Plus performances, $2,500 and $5,000 for Showcase Series, jazz, and opera sponsorships, and up to $15,000 to $30,000 for concert series sponsorships. Dollars raised through concert sponsorships help provide funding to cover costs for guest artist stipends, travel and lodging expense, as well as marketing, box office and front/back stage management expenses.

“Concert sponsorships help us to underwrite costs in order to provide the highest quality chamber music, solo artist, jazz, and world music concert opportunities for the MSU and mid-Michigan community,” says James Forger, dean of the College of Music. “They also give us the chance to publicly thank and acknowledge our generous sponsors.”

April Clobes, MSUFCU Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, says, “MSU Federal Credit Union is pleased to sponsor the College of Music's Showcase concerts. The concerts provide the opportunity for the students to perform for the community, highlighting their talents and hard work. The concerts help to make music accessible to the entire community, which makes East Lansing a great place to live and work. Many MSUFCU members have had the opportunity to attend the performances due to the credit union's sponsorship—and all were delighted!”

At the close of the 2013-14 academic year, the College of Music raised $124,000 in concert sponsorships, thanks in large part to the generosity of the MSU Federal Credit Union for sponsoring the Showcase Series, Joanne and Bill Church for sponsoring the West Circle Series, and the Worthington Family Foundation for supporting the Opera Theatre Season.

“Thank you to Dean Jim Forger who gave us the opportunity to sponsor the West Circle Series that showcases the world-class faculty of the College of Music at MSU,” adds Joanne Church. “It is wonderful to have such fabulous venues that allow access to the concerts by all of the people in Michigan. A special thank you to Deborah Moriarty for initiating the idea and nurturing it to its current success. When Bill and I experience these concerts we have a sense that the planet is still working.”
