Music in the Garden: Percussion Duo
Venue: W.J. Beal Botanical Garden
Rain Location: Cook Recital Hall, Music Building
Pull up a blanket or chair at the W.J. Beal Botanical Garden and enjoy the ambience of music and garden flora during MSU’s free outdoor concert series featuring MSU College of Music chamber groups. Free tours of the garden will begin after the concerts.
Music Performance, 6:00 PM
Join Modum Percussion Duo at MSU’s Botanical Garden as they take you on a musical journey of rhythmic intrigue. Each piece in the program explores rhythm in numerous ways by experimenting with concepts of pulse, meter, ostinati, and polyrhythm, and the way in which each of these factors works together to create exhilarating musical energy. RHYTHMS will showcase music influenced by pop, brazilian, minimalist, classical, and other contemporary percussion genres. The excitement of rhythm can be found anywhere you turn; this is our way of celebrating its malleability within different genres of music.
Garden Tour: Toxic Plants and Their Roles in the Insect World, 7:00 PM
Join Beal Botanical Garden curator Peter Carrington as we explore the sometimes intricate roles that toxic plants play in the survival and life-cycles of the insects in our environment. Some of our most beautiful butterflies and beetles depend on these plants for their very survival.
Feel free to bring your own food and enjoy a picnic during the concert, including complimentary MSU Dairy Store ice cream. (Please note the MSU Food Truck will not be available for this event)
