After Graduation

The master’s degree in theory offers pedagogy or traditional tracks. Normally, graduates of the former combine the program with a DMA performance degree. This prepares them well to compete for the many university positions that involve both studio (performance) and classroom (academic) teaching. The traditional track emphasizes research and writing and prepares graduates for doctoral study. We currently have graduates enrolled in—or preparing to enter—PhD programs at many of the country’s top schools, including the Eastman School of Music, Yale University, Columbia University, City University of New York, and Indiana University.
