Music Theory
The music theory area, which offers a Master of Music degree with an emerging emphasis on music theory pedagogy, provides an excellent education in the theoretical elements of music, including sound and pitch, rhythm, melody, harmony, and notation.
Graduate assistantships in music theory are available. Graduate assistants play a vital role as teaching assistants in the undergraduate theory curriculum, leading recitation sections, teaching ear training and theory for non-majors, and helping faculty members run the core theory courses.
Both faculty members and graduate assistant theory instructors at MSU have a wide array of state-of-the-art technology available to them to assist both their research and teaching activities.
