Music Education

Michigan State University has one of the leading music education programs in the nation. In fact, according to U.S. News & World Report, MSU has been the number one ranked college in the United States for teacher education since 1994. Graduates from MSU’s music education program have enjoyed very successful careers, often rising to leadership positions at the elementary, secondary, and collegiate levels.

The mission of the music education program is to prepare outstanding music educators in a dynamic learning atmosphere that is both inspiring and collegial. Undergraduate and graduate programs provide a core of knowledge and skills, augmented by electives that allow students to innovate, explore individual interests, and develop unique specializations.

Undergraduates studying music education comprise approximately half of all undergraduates at the College of Music. Undergraduate classes typically range from 15 to 25 students per class, while graduate classes number from five to 18 students per class.
