A special ceremony will precede the July 20 carillon concert. University officials will unveil a memorial to longtime university carillonneur Wendell Westcott and to Milt Muelder, who served MSU for more than 55 years as a faculty member, administrator, and benefactor. The 15-minute program, which will take place at 6:00 p.m. at the courtyard area in front of Beaumont Tower, will include brief remarks by President Lou Anna K. Simon, Provost Kim Wilcox, James Forger, dean of the College of Music, and University Carillonneur Ray McLellan. The memorial, built by carpenters from MSU’s Physical Plant, is a beautifully finished stand that includes Muelder's honorary carillon bell and plaques honoring both men. It will be placed in the lobby of the tower. The event will be attended by surviving spouses Iris Westcott and Beth Schwartz, and the Westcott and Muelder families. The concert will be followed by viewings of the memorial and tours of the carillon for those interested.
