Verdehr Trio
The Verdehr Trio features Walter Verdehr, violin; Elsa Ludewig-Verdehr, clarinet; and Silvia Roederer, piano. The Trio performs throughout the world and at Michigan State University’s Wharton Center each summer.
Founded in 1972 by Walter Verdehr and Elsa Ludewig-Verdehr, the Verdehr Trio—with the support of MSU—has commissioned more than 200 new works from some of the world’s most prominent composers to develop new chamber music literature. The trio’s “Making of a Medium” 13-CD and video series features many of the commissioned pieces. The videos, which aired on PBS throughout 2003, feature composers such as Joan Tower, Gian Carlo Menotti, and Libby Larsen discussing music they wrote for the trio.
