MSU saxophonists invited to perform at World Saxophone Congress XIII

MSU saxophone students, ensembles, alumni and Professor of Saxophone Joseph Lulloff performed numerous recitals and concerts upon invitation at the World Saxophone Congress XIII at the University of Minnesota, July 9 - 13, 2003. The theme was "Looking to our future, remembering our past,” in which classical and new works were presented. Dr. Eugene Rousseau, co-founder of the first Congress in 1969, hosted the triennial event. Dozens of countries were represented through solo performances, chamber music, soloists with band and orchestra, lectures, master classes, and exhibitions. Overall, more than 1,000 people attended and 500 saxophonists performed. In 2006, the Congress will be held in Slovenia.

"This is the premiere conference for saxophone students, faculty and professionals of all levels," said Professor Lulloff.

Along with the Royal Band of the Belgian Air Force, Professor Lulloff performed David Ott's Concerto No. 2 for Saxophone and Wind Ensemble, a result of a commissioning project initiated by a former student of his and Dr. Barry Ellis, director of bands at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.
