Graduate composer Conti wins Raymond W. Brock Memorial Student
Composition Contest
Michael Conti, a doctoral composition student, won the Raymond W. Brock
Memorial Student Composition Contest with his composition, Choric Song. He
received $1,000 from the American Choral Directors Association, which
sponsored the contest, and an all expense paid trip to Chicago for the
Central Division Convention in March 2002. A choir selected by the
convention committee performed his composition at the convention.
Conti received his master's in music theory and composition in Spring
2002. In addition to being a graduate assistant, he teaches music theory
to non-music majors. He has composed numerous pieces for the flute,
saxophone, piano, voice and band. One of his flute pieces was performed at
The Society of Composers, Inc. Region V Conference at Wayne State
University in November 2001. In addition, Dorn Publications, Inc. has
published his piece Three Short Works for Clarinet. Conti aspires to teach
at the college level after graduating.
