A free two-day Jazz Festival in the heart of Downtown East Lansing, featuring the best in local, regional and national talent.
The 23rd annual Summer Solstice Jazz Festival (SSJF) offers a free, multiple-stage, live outdoor music event for residents and visitors of Greater Lansing. The SSJF is a celebration of jazz music, one of the truly original American art forms, that includes performances by nationally recognized and regional performers, as well as youth and community education.
MSU Jazz artists
MSU Jazz musicians include: Tim Blackmon, Etienne Charles, Xavier Davis, Jordyn Davis, Michael Dease, Margherita Fava, Randy Gelispie, Tissa Khosla, Diego Rivera, Brandon Rose, Rodney Whitaker, and members of Becoming Quintet and Stanley Ruvinov Quartet.
Outreach and Engagement
Directed by Rodney Whitaker, the SSJF’s Engagement Education Stage gives local high school and young up-and-coming jazz musicians an opportunity to perform on stage at a major jazz festival.
