Ensembles: Opera

MSU Opera Society inaugurated in 2003

Melanie Helton, assistant professor of voice at MSU, established an MSU Opera Society, organized as a group of friends of the MSU Opera Theatre that will provide scholarship funds and support the MSU Opera Theatre’s growth and development. 

She held an inaugural gala event, entitled “A Celebration of the Beautiful Voice” in January 2003 at the James B. Henry Center for Executive Development on the MSU campus. The gala featured a lavish reception and students, faculty and guest artists who performed an entertaining mixture of international art songs and vocal idioms, including arias and ensembles from La Bohème, Rigoletto, The Pearl Fishers, Tannhauser, Cosi fan tutte, Don Giovanni, Madame Butterfly, and Showboat.
