Vocal Jazz Ensembles

Vocal jazz ensembles at Michigan State University perform a wide variety of jazz, contemporary, and Brazilian music and concentrate on the fundamentals of style combined with the great tradition of choral techniques. Above all, swinging and improvisation are at the heart of the MSU vocal jazz experience.

The ensembles feature arrangements of the Hi-Los, Lambert, Hendricks and Ross, and the Singers Unlimited, as well as charts written by contemporary arrangers such as Jennifer Barnes, Jeremy Fox, Kerry Marsh, Darmon Meader, and Michele Weir.

The vocal jazz ensembles have performed with many jazz greats, including Jon Hendricks and Kevin Mahogany, and have been featured on WKAR Radio. In addition, they participated in the Dianne Reeves Residency Program in February, 2008.
