Jazz Combos

There are typically eight to ten jazz combos in the jazz studies program at any one time, each consisting of four to six members forming quartets, quintets, and sextets. Students audition each semester and are placed in a combo, which is coached by one of the combo directors. Class time takes place in a nearby East Lansing coffee house each week where combos perform two or three numbers.

Combo members are responsible for their own repertoire and arrangements, and each combo includes a jazz vocalist. One of the combos is made up of six to eight graduate students.

Directors: Randy Gelispie and Wess Anderson
