Choral Society
The MSU Choral Society was founded in 1987, shortly after the formation of the MSU Choral Union. The MSU Choral Society constitution states that the society is “a not-for-profit, unincorporated society whose purpose is to be a support or ‘friends’ organization for Michigan State University’s choral music program.” The Choral Society raises funds for this purpose through dues, grants, gifts, sponsorship of musical events, and social activities. Funds are made available for scholarships or assistantships in choral conducting and other program-related purposes as determined by the society’s board of directors. Since 1989 the Choral Society has financially assisted more than 40 MSU choral students.
Society activities have included a biannual banquet and silent auction, a “Sing-Along with the Sound of Music” program, a wine-tasting event, theater trips, and casual pre-glow informational gatherings before Choral Union performances.
