Monte and Nelda Stuck of Redlands, California, have pledged a gift of $30,000 to establish The Agnes Crain Trout Endowed Scholarship in Piano Pedagogy. Trout, of East Lansing, Michigan, taught piano privately for most of her life, from 1928 until her death in 2002 at the age of 93. She was a member and former local chapter president of the Michigan Music Teachers Association. She was also an active member of the MSU Faculty Folk Club. Her husband, G. Malcolm Trout, was professor of food science at MSU for almost 50 years and known internationally for his research on milk homogenization. Through her teaching, Agnes Crain Trout had a profound influence on scores of young people.
“She did so much for educating young students in music that we wanted to honor her and create a scholarship in her name,” says Nelda, her daughter. The scholarship will be awarded to MSU students who plan to pursue careers as accompanists or in piano pedagogy. Monte and Nelda Stuck are both MSU alumni: Monte in communication arts and Nelda in journalism and radio/television.
