Selma Hollander and her late husband, Stanley, have established the Stanley and Selma Hollander Endowed Scholarship in Voice. The Hollanders had previously established endowed scholarships in cello and flute in 2002 and 2003, respectively.
Native New Yorkers, the Hollanders joined the MSU community more than 45 years ago when Stanley accepted a faculty position in the Department of Marketing. He retired in 1990 with the rank of University Distinguished Professor and died last March at the age of 84. College of Music faculty and students performed at his memorial service.
Selma is an MSU alumna with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in studio art. She joined the faculty of Home Economics (later known as the College of Human Ecology) and taught courses in weaving, general crafts, and fabric design.
During his lifetime, Stanley was firmly committed to giving back to the community that meant so much to him. His attendance at College of Music concerts, Department of Theatre performances, and museum events was a testimony to his love for the arts at MSU—a love shared by Selma. Together, they have been generous supporters of many MSU units, including Kresge Art Museum, the Wharton Center for Performing Arts, and the MSU Library.
In the fall of 2004, Matthew Tuell, an undergraduate student in voice performance, was named the first recipient of the Stanley and Selma Hollander Endowed Scholarship in Voice.
