When Glen Brough, of Charlotte, Michigan, calls the College of Music an “extension of his family” he means it literally! Glen and his wife, April Clobes, donated a Steinway Model M grand piano that he received as an estate gift from his deceased mother. The couple also donated a Bottesini double bass to the Jazz Studies Program.
Brough, a senior admissions counselor and scholarship coordinator for MSU, has also served as Spartan Marching Band Visual Coordinator for the past 17 seasons. In this capacity, he assists Director John Madden in the instruction of the marching portion of the band’s performances.
A talented musician in his own right, Brough thought hard about where these items, valued at over $31,000, could make the greatest possible impact. He determined that placement of the instruments in the College of Music seemed to be the perfect fit, and he believes this would have pleased his mother as well because it will benefit so many talented students.
“Glen has served the College of Music so well in so many capacities through his activities in the office of admissions and scholarships, and through his continuing efforts as a valued member of the Spartan Marching Band staff,” says James Forger, director of the College of Music. “Glen’s generosity will have a significant impact on the work of our piano majors for many years to come.”
“The College of Music has been important to our family over the past 30 years and I cannot think of a better home for these instruments than with a program that has given so much to us,” Brough says. |
