Michigan State University Application

Complete the online application to Michigan State University. There is a nonrefundable application fee. Apply early if you want to be considered for financial aid, a graduate assistantship, or a fellowship.

College of Music Supplemental Application

Submit the online College of Music Supplemental Application. There is a $60 nonrefundable application fee. Deadline is December 1.

Prescreening Video

Before being invited for an audition, applicants are required to submit a video of no more than 30 minutes, preferably with a combination of rehearsal and performance, and shot from in front of the conductor.  Please upload your video to our Media Upload Service.  The URL will be provided after you submit the College of Music Supplemental Application.  For additional information about these pre-audition recordings, please contact Dr. David Rayl, director of choral programs, at rayld@msu.edu. Please note: We generally discourage students who are just completing their undergraduate degree from applying to our MM program, unless they have had considerable 'real world' conducting experience. Deadline is December 1.

Live Audition

Those invited to audition will:

  • Conduct the Michigan State University Chorale
  • Interview with the selection committee

Transcripts

Submit one official transcript from every college or university attended. Transcripts are considered official when mailed by the institution directly to the College of Music at the address below.

Curriculum Vitae

To be considered for a fellowship or teaching assistantship, please provide a curriculum vitae that includes all relevant education and professional experience including:

  • Group teaching experience (where, when, how long, what classes, how many, etc.)
  • Private teaching experiences (where, when, how long, ages of students)
  • Previous experience as a graduate assistant

Please upload this document to the College of Music Supplemental Music Application after it is submitted. Deadline is December 1.

Personal Statement

In your personal statement please describe your educational and musical background, goals and objectives, and future career plans. Please feel free to include any information that you feel would be helpful to the College of Music in making our admission decision. Limit your statement to 300-500 words.

Letters of Recommendation

Request letters of recommendation from three individuals familiar with your musical abilities.
