- Jan Eberle, associate professor of oboe, served as a master teacher at the international English Horn Master Class 2008, which was held in Carlisle, Pa. Other master teachers included Lou Rosenblatt, formerly with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Merrill Greensburg, of the Israel Philharmonic, and Pat McFarland, of the Atlanta Symphony. In a recital, Eberle performed the world premiere of Arne Running Quodlibet for Oboe and English Horn. She gave two presentations, titled "Circular Breathing Made Easy!" and "Vibrato: No Longer a Mystery" (published in the International Double Reed Society Journal, Volume 29, #3).
- Frederick Tims, professor and area chair of music therapy, participated in a symposium called "The Arts and Social, Psychological, and Physical Health Outcomes for Older Adults" in February at the Richard M. DeVos Center, Grand Rapids, Mich. The panel was sponsored by the Geriatric Education Center of Michigan and presided by Dr. Jeffrey W. Dwyer, acting associate dean of research, MSU College of Human Medicine. Other presenters were Joanne M. Westphal, Ph.D., D.O., MSU physician and landscape architect Amir Parsa, M.A., M.Phil., project manager, Department of Education, the Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY.
