College of Music Grants, Fellowships, Scholarships

March-May 2008

  • Michael Adams, a senior trombone major studying with Ava Ordman, has been offered assistantships at both Western Michigan University and the University of New Mexico. In addition, he has been accepted at Southern Methodist University and the Royal Academy of Music in London, U.K.
  • Three double bass students of Jack Budrow, Rob Bickley, sophomore in music performance, Andrew Goodlett, senior in music performance, and Jon Reed, junior in music performance, were all accepted to the 2008 Aspen Music Festival summer program and awarded scholarships.
  • Sarah Lewis, a junior in music performance who studies with Jan Eberle, was awarded one of three oboe positions in the Chautauqua Festival Orchestra by national audition. Lewis successfully competed against students from the all the major conservatories and universities.
  • Erin Little, a senior in music education and student of Judy Palac, was a 2008 recipient of the Wilson Woodrow and Lillie B. Woodrow Scholarship in Education.
  • The H2 Quartet, made up of graduate students in Joseph Lulloff's studio, was awarded a fellowship to attend the University of Nebraska - Lincoln's Chamber Music Institute in June.
  • Navjot Sandhu, a second-year master's student in composition who studies with Charles Ruggiero, was awarded a highly competitive Fulbright Award to study in India during the 2008-09 academic year. Sandhu, the MSU College of Music's first winner of the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship, will be studying tabla performance in the style of Indian Punjab.
